Leslie is a single mother from Texas struggling with alcoholism. Though she manages to win $190,000 in a local lottery, she squanders everything on alcohol rather than building a better life for herself and her teenage son. Six years later, her estranged son James discovers she is living in motels and on the street, still drinking with whatever money she can come up with. He offers her a place in his home with the promise that she stops drinking, but when he sees that she has no plans to change, he kicks her out. With nowhere left to go, she takes the only chance she is given by a lonely motel clerk named Sweeney to work as a janitor. With his support, Leslie comes face to face with the consequences of her actions, a life of regret, and a second chance to make a good life for herself and her son.
