Jared Leto to star as Morbius the Living Vampire in "Spider-Man" spinoff

Jared Leto is set to play Morbius the Living Vampire.

28 Jun – Here's another comic book character Jared Leto is adding to his silver screen resume: Morbius the Living Vampire.

The singer-actor has finally said yes to a "Spider-Man" spinoff he's been loosely attached to star in for some time, Variety reports, and the movie will focus on the antihero.

Simply called "Morbius" at the moment, the spinoff will be helmed by "Life" director, Daniel Espinosa.

It was revealed that Leto wouldn't fully commit to the project until he's spoken to potential helmers, to see which direction the movie will be going. After meeting with Espinosa while on his Thirty Seconds to Mars tour in Germany, Leto finally agreed to star as the eponymous Spidey villain.

Morbius, who first appeared in 1971's "The Amazing Spider-Man #101", is a scientist who suffers from a rare blood disease and turns into a vampire of sorts after a failed attempt to cure himself.

The Living Vampire, with his super-strength, fangs and a thirst for blood, fought Spider-Man in the earlier comics but he later turned into a more heroic figure and received his own series of standalone comics.

There is no news yet on who else will be joining Leto in "Morbius".

Leto seems to be fully living up to his Prince of Darkness award, which he received in 2006. Aside from Morbius, he also plays the DC supervillain the Joker, which he debuted as in 2016's "Suicide Squad" and will be reprising in the upcoming the Joker standalone spinoff.

No release date has been set for "Morbius" but the movie should be released after the Tom Hardy-starrer "Venom" and next year's "Spider-Man: Far From Home".
